There is a great number of magnificent monuments in the Czech Republic, all part of its rich history, showing the great cultural tradition of the country. The map of the Czech Republic is full of preserved historical towns, old castles, glamorous chateaux, magnificent cathedrals and beautifully decorated churches. However, 12 of the places have more than that. They are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.

UNESCO stands for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. Its aim is to protect both man-made and natural creations of the past. Taking into account that In the whole world there are approximately 740 UNESCO sites, the Czech Republic belongs among the world’s superpower.

The 12 sites show both the diversity and variety of Czech history and culture. There are five towns that can be proud of having their historical centres on the list: Prague, Český Krumlov, Kutná Hora, Telč and the Jewish Quarter in Třebíč. The Baroque style is represented by the Holy Trinity Column in Olomouc, the Pilgrimage Church of St John of Nepomuk at Zelená Hora and the Kroměřít Chateau with its gardens. Others are the unique Lednice-Valtice area, Holašovice with the „peasant baroque“ of 19th century and the funcionalist Tugendhat vila in Brno.
