The Hradec Králové Region was established in 2000 from the original East Bohemia Region. The southern part is formed by a valley region of the Labe river-basin. By contrast, the northern part is formed by the highest mountains of the Czech Republic – Krkonoše, together with Jizerské mountains. Thanks to its unique and picturesque countryside, the region belongs among the most popular tourist destinations in the whole of the Czech Republic. Sněžka, the highest mountain of the Czech Republic, is located here and many winter sports fans come here every winter. The Hradec Králové Region is industrially well developed and the region‘s capital, Hradec Králové, is a university city. A great number of cultural, historical and natural locations are to be found here including Český ráj, Jaroměř and Dvůr Králové known for its safari!
