Moravian-Silesian Region - About the Region

Příbor Poodří Moravskoslezské Beskydy Ostrava Zámek Linhartovy Krnov

The Moravian Silesian Region is the most eastern part of the Czech Republic. It is known particularly as an industrial and mining region. After 1989 many coal mines were shut down which helped to improve  the environment a great deal.  The region is currently undergoing significant changes. Despite many problems connected mainly with high unemployment, the future of the region is very promising and the motorway connecting Olomouc and Ostrava which is just being built will undoubtedly play and important part in its redevelopment. The region offers an abundance of beautiful countryside. Skiers can enjoy the slopes of the Jeseníky mountains and those who prefer folklore tradition can go to the Beskydy mountains. There is also, in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm,  the largest open-air museum in the Czech Republic.  A large number of cultural and historical locations are to be found in this part of the country, the most famous ones being  Hukvaldy castle and Rýmařov chateau.
