The Jewish cemetery is located in Zborovská street, north-east of the synagogue. It is most likely that it was founded in the first half of the 17th century, the latest tomb on which we can still read the name dates back to 1686. The cemetery served a last-resting place for Jewish people from the whole region until 1956. By estimation approximately 1000 burials took place here during the 19th and 20th centurries. For instance, Julius, Sigmund Freud’s brother is buried here. The cemetery was supposed to be razed to the ground in 1989 but luckily it escaped its fate.
