Lipová-lázně, sometimes also called Dolní Lázně, is a spa resort situated in a beautiful strip of the Czech Republic at the border of the Rychlebské mountains and the mountain range Hrubý Jeseník, about 5km from the town of Jeseník. The local spa resort specialises in two main areas. First, in healing many kinds of skin diseases, such as psoriasis, exma, acne and others. Second, problems with metabolism, digestion, thyroid, etc. The spa is open the whole year. It is an ideal place for strolling in the mountains, cycling and both down-hill and cross-country skiing.
Tha spa was founded in 1829 by a farmer and healer Johann Schroth (1797-1856) who was very keen on hydrotherapy as well as the well-known V. Priessnitz. Johann Schroth cured people with metabolism problems by feeding them with dry and saltless food that contained no water. Absence of water was then made up for by wine. The aim was to get rid of as much water from the body as possible. Such method was considered very unorthodox and dangerous that time. Patients needed a strong will and self-denial to go through it. It does not come as a surprise that the only patients were those who were considered uncurable everywhere else. At the beginning of the 20th century obesity started being cured here. Nowadays lowering diet is used. About 3 000 patients visit the spa every year.
