This region’s size (only four districts) does not correspond with its significance. With Pardubice at it’s centre, the region is an important industrial and economic centre with a well developed infrastructure. It is a very attractive tourist destination due to the many cultural, historical and natural landmarks. To all Czech people the region conjures up a diverse range of images - gingerbread, the notoriously famous explosive semtex and also horseraces! Horses seem destined to the populate this region and Kladruby nad Labem is famous for breeding the well known Kladruby horses. A favourite place for holiday makers is the water reservoir Seč on the Chrudimka river. Another must-see is the town of Lytomyšl, a place where the famous composer Bedřich Smetana was born. In Litomyšl there is a splendid Reneissance chateau, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999. Among other beautiful places are Kunětická Hora castle and theMoravská Třebová chateau area.
