Southern Moravian Region - About the Region

The Lednice-Valtice Area The Villa Tugendhat Mikulov Mikulov Chateau Macocha Abyss Brno

The Southern Moravian Region is abundant with history and culture. Its centre is formed by the second largest Czech city, Brno. Brno is an important centre of justice, education and business in addition to being an important transport interchange.  Here we can find a large number of historical monuments and the region is represented on the UNESCO World Heritage List by the Tugendhat villa and the Lednice-Valtice area . Truly spectacular natural areas are, among others, the Moravian Karst with its caves and the Podyjí National Park.  Slavkov, where the battle of three emperors took place during the Napoleonic wars, is not far from Brno. The southern part of the region is famous for its wine culture. Not far from the border with Austria there is a very famous archeological site Dolní Věstonice which is the location of the oldest remains in the Czech Republic. Motorbike fans can enjoy the Czech Republic Grand Prix at the Masaryk Circuit.
