The Zlín Region is positioned in the eastern part of the Czech Republic bordering with Slovakia. The centre of the region is the city of Zlín. The enterpreneur Tomáš Baťa realised his grand-scale business plan here in the twenties and thirties of the last centrury. Up to the present day funcionalism admirers come here from all around the world. Another place popular with tourists is the town of Luhačovice, a town built in a distinctive art nouveau style. Architecture buffs will undoubtedly enjoy the Roman monuments in Hulín and Radhošt, the Gothic Buchlov Castle, Cimburk and Lukov ruins or spectacular chateaus in Buchlovice, Valašské Meziříčí, Vsetín, Uherský Ostroh or Zlín. The Zlín Region is also a region of winter sports. The eastern border is formed by Bílé Karpaty mountains spreading towards the North where they join the Javorníky and Moravskoslezské Beskydy mountains. The region comprises three ethnographic and geographic areas – Valašsko, Haná and Slovácko – hence the countryside and cultural variety.
