Liberec Region - About the Region

Liberec Trosky Machův kraj Jizerské Mountains Ještěd

The Liberec Region originated in 2000 from the former North Bohemian and East Bohemian regions and it is not only the most northern region of the Czech Republic but, after Prague,  the smallest region of all. At the centre of the region is Liberec, a city surrounded by mountains and forests. It is one of the most industrial parts of the country , though the once thriving textile industry has diminished in recent years. The most famous products are costume jewellery and high quality glass from  Jablonec nad Nisou. The region has an abundance of gorgeous countryside. The Liberec Region includes the areas of Český ráj, Jizérské mountains, Krkonoše, Lužické hory, Máchuv kraj and Frýdlantsko. When visiting the region tourists shouldn’t miss  Bezděz castle, Sychrov and Zákupy chateau.
