Dětenice, a Baroque chateau is located in a small village of the same name near Jičín, Hradec Králové region, East Bohemia. Originally a Gothic fortress built by Beneš of Hruštice in 1295; at the end of 16th century it was rebuilt by Bohuslav of Křinec into a chateau in Renaissance style. In 1762-1765 the chateau got late-Baroque appearance welcoming visitors up till present days. In 1948 the chateau became national property and it started serving as a dormitory. Present owners, the Ondráček family, bought the chateau in 1998. They had it reconstructed according to preserved historical documentation and opened it to the public. The interiors display mostly Baroque and Neo-Classical furniture; walls and ceilings are decorated with frescoes and wall paintings, some of them even in original Rococo or Neo-Classical stucco; also the collection of paintings, arms, and cannons from a naval battle between the Maltese Knights and the Ottoman Turks is worth seeing as well as the collection of coins on the second floor.
