The Libochovice chateau is a dominant feature of the small town of the same name in the Ústí Region, on the left bank of the Odra river. The chateau is one of the most significant Baroque buildings in the Czech Republic. The history goes back to its existence as an Gothic fort and it was later converted into a Renaissance chateau. It received its Baroque appearance in the 17th century when an extensive reconstruction was carried out.
The chateau is surrounded by a large park in Versailles style. Libochovice is also the birthplace of the renowned physicist J. E. Purkyně (1987).
