The Karlovy Vary Region is the most western region of the Czech Republic and with only three districts one of the smallest ones. However, it is by no means less important. The region is industrially well developed, we can find here unique natural scenery but most importantly, it is the region of spas! Karlovy Vary, Mariánské lázně, Františkovy lázně or Kynžvart are the most famous ones. Many well-known people have benefited from a spa cure here. The region is also known for the very popular Karlovy Vary film festival which attracts the leading figures in world cinematography every year. Last but not least, the Karlovy Vary region is famous for porcelain production, Matonni mineral water and Becherovka. Even though the spa towns are the main tourist destinations there are a large number of other attractive destinations such as the historical towns Cheb, Loket, Jáchymov, Ostrov or Hroní Slavkov.
