Central Bohemia Region - About the Region

Karlštejn Castle Konopiště Kutná Hora Budeč Rotunda Mělník Křivoklát

The Central Bohemia Region is the largest region in the Czech Republic and forms a big ring around Prague. Unlike the others it has neither a border with a foreign country nor a regional capital as all the major offices are located in Prague. The northern part includes the fertile region of Polabí, whilst by contrast, the southern part is rather hilly. There are countless  places of interest in the region, all of which are easily accessible from Prague. We can find here true jewels such a Karlštejn castle, Konopiště chateau or Kutná Hora (listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List). Those who prefer a romantic walk in the country will without  doubt enjoy the protected landscape area Kokořínsko, abundant with sandstone rocks and chasms, pine tree woods and many significant monuments. Other places not to be missed are Křivoklát Castle, Lidice and the largest karst area in the Czech Republic – Koněpruské caves.
